History

It is located in the Posada district at Kazimierza Lipińskiego Street. It was founded in 1902, when a cemetery chapel was built. The cemetery was intended for the burials of the inhabitants of the third district of Sanok, Posada Olchowska; the oldest gravestones date from the beginning of the 20th century. The area of the cemetery was enlarged in 1931 by about 100 ares, and in 1939 the cemetery was municipalized. In the times of the Polish People's Republic, a pre-funeral chapel was built in the cemetery. The dimensions of the cemetery are about 250m X 150m. In 2014, a cross commemorating the victims of a fire at the Gum Factory in Sanok on August 2, 1944 was placed in the cemetery. It was originally established in 1994 and installed at Dworcowa St. in Sanok. The inscription on the commemorative plaque reads: The cross was erected to commemorate dozens of people who suffered a tragic death in flames as live torches - as a result of the explosion of combustible materials at the Gum Factory on August 2, 1944. The memory of them will remain alive in our hearts. Residents of the Posada District. After the creation of the new monument, the cross was moved to the Posada cemetery.
