The cemetery at Okęcie - now a Catholic, and formerly a war cemetery located on the Okęcie estate in the Warsaw district of Włochy. It was established in the autumn of 1939 as a war cemetery, on which soldiers of the Polish Army who died in the area during the defense of Warsaw as part of the September campaign were buried. During the war, it served as a burial place for the local population. At the cemetery, the fallen were also buried near the Warsaw insurgents. The cemetery was closed for burials in 1956 which contributed to its progressive neglect. Soon after, the fallen September soldiers and insurgents were transported to the Powązki Military, which only contributed to the fall of the cemetery. At the turn of the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century, the cemetery was in a dramatically poor condition. In subsequent years, the situation was gradually improving. The cemetery was re-opened for burials. It is located at the foot of Fort Okęcie Fortress Warsaw, east of it. [source: Wikipedia, 2280273]
