Description
It has an area of 0.58 ha. It is located in the district of Mąkacz (formerly Munkacz) from the name of the tzaddik who is worshiped here. Until today, the cemetery is surrounded by a brick wall on three sides. The fourth wall, along with the entrance, was completely destroyed. The cemetery is in a state of extreme destruction, made over the years by nature (growing trees, shrubs and tall grasses in summer) and by man: during World War II, marble and granite plating of tombs were taken away by the Germans, mainly to nearby Rabka, where SS school (Tereska villa) was used to build stairs. The matzevot were also a material used to strengthen the shores of Gorzki Potok in Rabka. Many matzevot are now invisible, covered with a layer of earth and an accentuated plank of rotting leaves and grasses. No grave is perfect. The number of matzevot (above all those invisible and destroyed by time) is, however, very large (at least several dozen). The cemetery was intended for a fairly large area of the Jewish population, including municipalities from Rabka, Sucha Beskidzka, and Maków Podhalański. There are known cases of theft of individual monuments in recent years. During the war, many Nazi murders of the Jewish population took place right here in the cemetery. The number of people buried in the entire history of the cemetery, based on available information, should be estimated at at least several hundred. There are also ruins of a pre-burial house.
